Practice Safe SUP
SafetY GUIDELINES
-
First, we recommend you look into and follow all local rules and regulations.
-
You should always wear a life jacket when on the water.
-
We encourage you to bring a safety kit with you.
-
Do your research about each spot before you go.
-
Know where you are going and plan ahead how much time you want to spend on the water.
-
Check the wind forecast.
-
Stay close to shore as there can be currents and winds that can take you off-shore.
-
Bring water and sunscreen to stay hydrated and protected.
-
If it's your first time, we recommend taking a lesson or going with an experienced friend.
GETTING GOING
-
It should take about 5 minutes to inflate your board with the manual pump.
-
Inspect: Make sure your SUP is not leaking air and that the center fin is secured in place.
-
Carry your board to a proper launch area.
-
You can start on your knees on the board. Get comfortable with a variety of strokes before standing (forward, reverse, sweep, draw and cross bow).
-
To stand up, hold your paddle perpendicular to the board while keeping your weight on both your hands. Slowly move one foot at a time keeping good flexion in your knees and ankles for optimal balance. (if intimidated, don’t hesitate to practice on land or to go up for a few minutes then back sitting or kneeling until comfortable).
-
Keep feet shoulder-width apart and look straight ahead.
